Online History Tuition Singapore

All Our Classes Are Held Online

A question we have often received from parents here at Herzen is, why do we hold classes online? Can kids focus in online lessons? Is it as effective as physical class?

The concern is fully understandable, but our specialist methods have got this covered.

Why We Conduct Online Only Classes

In order to make sense of the need for online class, we need to look at not just the tuition but how kids live their lives outside of class. The life of a Singaporean child in the education system is not easy, with huge CCA commitments as well as other exams and tests to prepare for. Tuition, by its very nature, is supplementary to the daily lifestyle of a child. In fact, many classes are often a drain on their time and energy when seen in combination with all these other commitments.

Travelling time worsens this by a long shot, and providing tuition online gives your kid the freedom to attend class from your own home, in their own clothes and after a hot meal back home from school. Many physical tuition centres are also located in locations inconvenient for kids to reach, putting parents to more trouble to fetch them there.

In short, physical tuition often brings more drawbacks than benefits, exhausting children and their parents even more. Burnout is a real problem we have seen too many times in our students. We will do whatever we can to help with this as much as possible.

Our Positive Experince

Almost all our Herzen teachers have experience teaching history in-person, and then online. We have noticed that our students respond much more positively to online classes as they are more refreshed, energised and ready to go even when classes are early in the morning or late at night. The extra comfort really goes a long way to helping them get settled in. Mental and emotional health is incredibly important in getting students to study truly effectively. Every single teacher at Herzen understands this
and we do our utmost to live by this philosophy.

Being in a comfortable environment and getting adequate rest is crucial to a child functioning well in class! Online learning helps students to study sustainably over the long-term, something too often neglected in established teaching methods.

Some parents, however, were still worried and we always get texts about whether online is good for kids’ learning.

The Short Answer - YES!

In our experience, kids are absolutely capable of learning well online just as they do in a physical environment, especially for a subject like history where all the learning of skills mastery is 100% collaborative, done on Google Slides.

Our teachers are veterans of online learning and have coached generations of proud students to victory, incorporating techniques into our pedagogy. Rarely giving students answers outright, our teachers hold their hands to guide them through the thought processes, encouraging them to gain the confidence to derive the answers themselves. This helps them become capable self-motivated learners who have learned above all to study in a sustainable and effective manner that avoids burnout.

There is nothing that can be done in a physical history-learning environment that online cannot do.

The benefits of extra rest and comfort students get from doing class online far outweigh any benefits of a physical location. At Herzen, our teaching style is heavily dialogical in nature, with empathy with the student and their circumstances being a cornerstone of our learning philosophy.
